Shamuon Generation- Builds Strong People and a Stronger Community

Shamuon Generation is a place with heart, passion and really fit people who push you to be a stronger version of yourself.

You will hate them during your workout- but love them for it.

I’m a bit of a complicated person with my fitness preferences because I’m not naturally athletic.

I have to work really hard to be this mediocre.

I don’t like self-performing sports because I find them lonely and boring. I don’t like team sports either because if you’re not good at what you do, no one wants to play with you. Kickboxing is the perfect balance for someone like me because you work with a partner but focus on your own performance.

I learned the skills to beat people up without ever actually beating people up.

And it’s a marvelous feeling.

You feel so powerful throwing a punch or kick and hearing it make that “smack!” sound against the pads. But it takes a while to get to that point if you’re someone like me.

Kickboxing classes at Shamuon Generation are cardio workouts where you learn different combinations of punches and kicks and train your body to move like a boxer. It’s not “sparing” but you work with gloves and pads.

 IT. KICKS. MY. BUTT.

This club has built an amazing community and is family owned. The Shamuons are extremely kind and big experts in Kung Fu. There are pictures of competitions, crazy poses and awards all over the walls from the family’s accomplishments. They pass on their knowledge and skills to their students and these students do very well in competitions.

When I first started kickboxing, I would throw sloppy punches, give bent knee kicks and be so tired by the third round, my workout was basically over halfway through the class.

But because I love torturing myself, this was a challenge I was excited to tackle. I’m still not fit by any means- but man, have I improved tremendously in 3 months’ time.

I’ve developed a relationship with some of the participants there and I’m not going to lie, they were very intimidating the first time I met them. Why? Because they were extremely confident in their abilities and I thought they were going to beat me up.

Average looking people- but are stupid fit. Like REALLY IN SHAPE. They move fast, punch hard and aren’t phased by the workout whatsoever as they go off to spar each other afterward.

Then there’s me; who went from wearing a cute workout outfit and makeup to looking like a rabid clown who was chased down by a bear in the woods.

Is this a graceful sport? Not for beginners. But those who are more advanced look beautiful, and they are so willing to teach you.

You can progress quickly if you put the work in. This organization is like a little family with the regulars and they want you to succeed.

If you want to get in shape, I recommend Shamuon Generation in Waterloo.

If you want to get ripped and double your workout days, visit Hotshot Athletic in Cambridge, another gym run by one of the teachers.
